An individualised consultation.
Hair fall and scalp changes can occur for many reasons and may be gradual, sudden, diffuse or patchy. The pattern, scalp health, recent illness, stress, nutrition, medicines, hormonal or medical history and previous investigations can all be relevant. At Sudarshan Homeopathy in Mansarovar, Jaipur, Dr. Kanchan Khandelwal, BHMS, takes a detailed individual history while recognising when dermatology or other medical assessment is important.
Understanding your hair fall and scalp pattern
- When the hair fall began and whether it was sudden or gradual
- Whether thinning appears diffuse, localised or patchy and whether the hairline or parting has changed
- Scalp symptoms such as itching, scaling, redness, tenderness, dandruff, lesions or excessive oiliness or dryness
- Recent fever, infection, surgery, major illness, weight change, emotional stress or other significant events
- Diet, appetite, restrictive eating, sleep, routine and any supplements currently being used
- Current medicines and relevant medical history, including thyroid, iron, hormonal or other health concerns where applicable
- Menstrual or hormonal history when relevant to the individual case
- Previous blood tests, dermatology assessment, treatments and response to earlier care
Hair fall patterns can have different causes
Not all hair fall has the same explanation. Temporary shedding after illness or stress, patterned thinning, patchy loss, scalp disorders and hair changes associated with nutritional, hormonal or medical conditions may require different assessment. A consultation should not assume a cause from appearance alone, and appropriate examination or investigations may be recommended.
What happens during your consultation
The consultation reviews your hair and scalp concern together with its timeline, associated symptoms, general health, routine, stress, nutrition, medicines and available reports. Homeopathic care is individualised, so a medicine is not selected only from the label of hair fall. Dr. Kanchan will also consider whether dermatology, medical assessment or continued specialist care is appropriate.
Photographs and a simple hair-fall record may help
If the change is gradual, photographs taken in similar lighting and from similar angles can help document the pattern over time. You may also note when shedding increased, scalp symptoms, recent illness or major changes and treatments being used. Avoid repeatedly counting individual hairs, as day-to-day shedding varies and a clinical assessment is more useful when there is concern.
What to bring
If available, bring recent blood-test reports, thyroid or iron-related investigations, dermatology reports, prescriptions, details of current medicines and supplements, and photographs showing how the hair or scalp concern has changed over time.
When medical or dermatology assessment may be important
Persistent, unexplained, rapidly increasing or patchy hair loss may require scalp examination and medical evaluation. Depending on the history, a clinician may consider investigations for nutritional, thyroid, hormonal or other contributing conditions. Do not stop prescribed medicines or begin high-dose supplements solely for hair fall without appropriate professional advice.
